Test № 03 · Working Memory

Three subtests. Ten minutes.

After classical paradigms — forward digit span, backward digit span, and Corsi block-tapping. Each measures a different aspect of the cognitive system that holds and manipulates information across seconds.

What this measures

  • Forward digit span — phonological loop capacity
  • Backward digit span — central executive (manipulation)
  • Spatial span (Corsi) — visuospatial sketchpad

How it works

  • A sequence is shown one element at a time.
  • After the sequence ends, reproduce it.
  • Sequences grow longer until you make 2 mistakes in a row.
  • Find a quiet spot — distractions wreck working memory.

About this score

Span measures the longest sequence you can reliably reproduce. Average adults score 7±2 on forward digit span, 5±2 on backward digit span, and 5±1 on spatial span. This is not an IQ test — the main 40-item test returns an estimated IQ score.
